ACityDiscount Celebrates CEO's 60th Birthday
This week we celebrated our President/CEO, John Stack’s 60th birthday. John Stack is a father of two, grandfather of two and son of William (Bill) Stack, the original founder of ACityDiscount. ACityDiscount opened its doors for business in Atlanta in 1973. Bill Stack, had previously managed a local department store, but when that closed he decided to use his sales knowledge to open a business selling used restaurant equipment to serve the foodservice industry.
The family-owned company, A City Discount, began selling used restaurant equipment in 1973. The current CEO, John Stack, joined the family-owned business in 1977. An early adopter of search optimization, the business name was changed from CityDiscount to ACityDiscount in 1986 for a high-alphabetized search placement in the Yellow Pages. John also did all the back-end programming for the company’s website, leading to a boost in internet sales. Later, a successful experiment selling new kitchen appliances on eBay in 1999, led John to open Peach Trader Inc. This enabled the company to focus the expansion into supplying new food service equipment and developing its online presence.
While ACityDiscount continues to set itself apart from the competition by buying and selling used restaurant equipment, today approximately 80% of the company’s revenue is achieved through selling new commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration, bar equipment, ice machines, concession equipment and restaurant furniture through our online store and the major shopping comparison websites.
Now in our 38th year, a third generation, Marty Stack, Executive VP, helps to run the operations of this family-run business, ensuring ACityDiscount remains one of the nations top suppliers of new and used restaurant equipment to the foodservice industry.
