ACityDiscount Attends Atlanta Dogwood FestivalPosted: May 01, 2014
Software Engineer Willie Siavichay Steals The Show
Recently, ACityDiscount planned a group outing to support Team Member Willie Siavichay, ACityDiscount’s Senior Software Engineer, as he and his band performed at Atlanta’s 78th Annual Dogwood Festival. Known as Willie Ziavino and C.O.T Band, Willie and his four band mates are known throughout the Atlanta area for their eclectic music, which incorporates a wide range of influences including Salsa, island music, Brazilian Afrobeat, jazz, and even funk.
Willie, a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador, has been writing music since the age of 14. Willie moved to the Atlanta area in 2000, and after a number of years of refining his craft and paying his dues in the local music scene, formed Willie Ziavino & C.O.T. Band in 2010. Since forming, the band has seen significant success, and has played at least one show weekly for over 4 years! The band has played a wide variety of venues, shows, and festivals, including Dunwoody’s Eclipse de Luna, the High Museum of Art Atlanta, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, and now the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.
The Atlanta Dogwood Fesitvals has been a staple of springtime in Georgia. Held yearly at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park, the festival is a celebration of the dogwood; a flowering tree that is very common throughout Georgia. The festival itself is as eclectic as the city of Atlanta. The yearly gathering has grown in each of its 78 years, and includes a bevy of activities for attendees, including: music, a kids’ village with inflatable play areas, food trucks, contests (including a Frisbee catching competition), and a nationally renowned Fine Artist Market.
The ACityDiscount team had a great time celebrating with Willie and his band at the festival, and we are proud that our team members make a point to be active in community events like the Atlanta Dogwood Festival. Willie Ziavino & C.O.T. Band’s will be performing three nights in a row at Atlanta’s Mi Cocina for Cinco de Mayo, and will be playing the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga on Saturday June 7th. A list of their future shows can be found on their website.
